The Indian government has decided to permit the toys from China to enter Indian markets, lifting the six months ban. The relief is however, partial as only the ones, which have quality certifications from international laboratories and agencies can enjoy it.
The move is believed to occur due to China’s threat of appealing to the WTO (World Trade Organization) regarding the imposed ban.
WTO is responsible for laying down trade rules for 152 member countries.
This blanket ban was thrown on the imports due to rising concerns about the health related issues of the toys. The toys attracted international scanning after Chinese toy manufacturer Mattel started collecting about 20 million of the products due to ‘more than permissible’ lead amounts in those.
